Direct answer

On The Island Apparel produces custom engraved awards and plaques — American walnut, rosewood piano-finish, leatherette, crystal, art-glass, and brass-plate recognition pieces — at our shop in Huntington, NY. We run no minimums (engrave one retirement plaque or fifty tournament awards), standard 72-hour production on leatherette and brass plate, and 5–10 business days on hardwood and crystal. Flat per-piece pricing, no setup fees, same per-piece price at qty 1 or qty 100.

Sales President's Club · Top Performer · Quota Buster

Sales recognition + President's Club awards

Sales recognition awards are the most visible recurring engraving program a company runs — they show up on desks, in onboarding decks, on the recognition wall, and in the LinkedIn posts of the reps who win them. The award is photographed, displayed, and earned again the next year, which means the piece has to read as serious the first second a recipient picks it up.

For President's Club and top-performer recognition, our default recommendation is a piano-finish rosewood or American walnut plaque with a laserable brass plate. The plate engraves with the recipient's name, the achievement designation, the fiscal year, and (often) a quote line from leadership. The brass-on-wood combination has been the default sales-recognition format in American corporate culture for forty years; that recognition is part of the value.

For more modern programs that want to break from the wood-plaque template, we run goldtone star castings on rosewood bases, crystal-eagle pieces with engraved aluminum plates, and modern art-glass trophies. The artglass and crystal lines photograph beautifully for sales-kickoff hype videos and digital announcement graphics — useful if the recognition is going public on company channels.

5 / 10 / 15 / 20-Year Recognition

Employee anniversary + years-of-service awards

Years-of-service programs are where engraving quality matters the most and where most companies underspend. An employee who has been with a company for fifteen years and receives a foil-stamped certificate in a plastic frame reads the gesture exactly as it was sent — quickly assembled, mass-produced, indistinguishable from a sales-quota mug. A laser-engraved walnut plaque with a brass plate carrying the employee's name, service span, and a personal note reads as the company actually counted the years.

We produce service-anniversary awards in tiers that align with milestone years. Five-year recognition typically runs on the leatherette plaque line (7 x 9 or 8 x 10 with engraved logo + name + start year) at a price point that scales for headcount. Ten-year tiers usually move up to the Coventry walnut series with a brass plate. Fifteen, twenty, and twenty-five-year tiers run on Airflyte premium rosewood piano finish plaques, sometimes with an eagle casting or perpetual-plate frame for thirty-year recognition.

For companies running ongoing service programs, we hold blank inventory of the chosen plaque format so monthly or quarterly engravings can ship in three to five days from a name-list trigger — no fresh procurement cycle every time.

Golf Outings · Tournament Awards · Athletic Banquets

Athletic + golf tournament awards

Golf outings, charity tournaments, and athletic banquets all run on the same award-distribution rhythm: longest drive, closest to the pin, low gross, low net, team winners, special-category winners, sponsor recognition. A typical Long Island corporate or charity golf outing distributes eight to twenty engraved awards in a single ceremony, often within twenty-four hours of the event finishing.

For tournament awards we run a hybrid program — crystal or art-glass trophies for the headline categories (low gross, tournament champion), goldtone star castings on rosewood bases for the secondary categories (closest to pin, longest drive), and leatherette plaques with engraved logos for sponsor recognition and committee thanks. The variety reads better on the awards table than twenty identical plaques, and the cost scales appropriately to the prestige of each category.

Tournament awards are also one of our most common rush categories. We can engrave a winner's name onto a brass plate the morning of the ceremony if the tournament settles late — bring the trophy to the shop with the name list, we engrave + assemble while you wait. For multi-day events, we can also stage blank pieces at the venue and engrave on-site from a portable laser if the timeline is tight.

Board Service · Volunteer Hours · Donor Recognition

Volunteer + nonprofit recognition awards

Nonprofit recognition has tighter budget constraints than corporate recognition and a higher emotional weight per award. A board member who has served seven years on a nonprofit board, a volunteer who has worked a thousand hours, a donor who funded the new wing — these people are giving the organization time and money and they should not receive a recognition piece that looks cheaper than the gesture they made.

We run nonprofit recognition on the same hardwood plaque lines we run for corporate (Coventry walnut, Airflyte rosewood, leatherette tiers), priced to match the program budget rather than the prestige tier. A 7 x 9 leatherette plaque engraved with a volunteer's name, hours served, and organization logo lands in the same emotional weight class as a much more expensive corporate plaque because the recipient knows the org is being careful with money.

For board recognition specifically, we frequently produce perpetual plaques — single large walnut or rosewood plaques with twelve to twenty-four engraved brass plates, one per board chair or honoree. Each year a fresh brass plate is added with the new name, and the plaque hangs in the organization's lobby as a permanent record. Brass-plate add-ons can be engraved and shipped without re-mounting the full plaque.

Industry Awards · Association Recognition · Lifetime Achievement

Industry + trade association awards

Industry associations, trade groups, and professional societies all run an annual awards program — lifetime achievement, member of the year, rising star, distinguished service. These awards carry industry-wide visibility because the winners are publicized in trade press, displayed in the winner's office, and referenced for years in speaker bios and LinkedIn profiles. The award itself has to carry weight that justifies the publicity.

For lifetime-achievement and headline industry awards, we run premium pieces: crystal eagle on crystal base, carved art-glass trophies, premium Airflyte rosewood piano-finish plaques with florentine borders. The brass or aluminum engraved plate carries the association name, the award designation, the year, and the recipient's name in clean monospaced engraving that reads from across the banquet room.

Trade associations often run multi-year award programs where the past-winners list grows annually. We coordinate the perpetual plaque programs — engraving new brass plates each year to add to the master plaque kept at the association office, plus producing the individual presentation piece the winner takes home. Both pieces share consistent engraving formatting so the program reads as a continuous tradition rather than year-to-year ad-hoc decisions.

Retirement · Career Milestones · Farewell Gifts

Retirement + milestone career gifts

Retirement and milestone career gifts sit at the boundary between recognition award and personal keepsake. The recipient is leaving the organization (or pivoting careers) and the piece will hang somewhere personal — a home office, a den, a retirement-condo wall — for the rest of their life. The engraving has to hold up to that timeframe and feel sincere enough that it doesn't read as a corporate goodbye.

We engrave retirement pieces on the same Coventry walnut and Airflyte rosewood lines as service-anniversary awards, but with more personal engraving copy: full career span, departments served, signature roles, and frequently a quote line or short message from the team. The piece is often paired with a separate engraved leather portfolio or premium tumbler so the retiree has a personal-use companion to the wall piece.

For long-tenure retirements (twenty-five+ years), we recommend the perpetual-plate format even for a single piece — the plaque includes blank space the recipient can add to later if they end up consulting back to the company, joining the board, or hitting a fiftieth-anniversary alumni recognition. The format communicates that the relationship isn't ending, it's evolving.

Material guide — choose the right substrate

Five materials cover ~95% of award and plaque production. The right substrate matches the recognition tier, the display environment, and the budget. Each card covers when to use it, finish characteristics, durability, and lead-time impact.

Premium executive tier

Rosewood Piano Finish

When to use

Lifetime achievement, industry-association headline awards, C-suite recognition, twenty-five-year service tiers, retirement gifts where the piece will hang in the recipient's home office indefinitely. Rosewood piano finish is the most prestigious wood-plaque format we offer.

Finish

Deep red-brown hardwood with multiple coats of clear lacquer polished to a high gloss. The piano-finish surface reflects light cleanly under stage and recognition-wall lighting. Brass or aluminum engraving plates mount flush; the laser engraves a frosted contrast against the brass that reads sharp from across a banquet room.

Durability

Rosewood plaques are designed for indoor display lifetimes of twenty-plus years. The piano-finish lacquer protects against minor handling marks. The recipient should keep the plaque out of direct sunlight (UV will eventually dull any high-gloss finish) and away from humidity extremes.

Lead time

5–7 business days standard from artwork approval. Premium pieces with eagle castings, florentine borders, or perpetual-plate frames add 2–3 days for the additional hardware mounting. Rush available with surcharge — message the shop with your deadline.

Default service-anniversary plaque

American Walnut

When to use

Standard service-anniversary recognition (5/10/15-year tiers), corporate sales awards, board-service plaques, nonprofit volunteer recognition. The Coventry walnut series with brass plate is the default American corporate-recognition format and the right answer for most plaque programs.

Finish

Solid American walnut with stained-and-sealed warm brown grain. Gold or black border options. Brass plate mounted center-positioned, sized to the plaque face. The engrave on the brass plate reads as crisp white text against the brass — the highest-contrast pairing in the wood-plaque category.

Durability

Walnut is the most stable American hardwood for recognition plaques — minimal warping over time, takes mounting hardware cleanly, holds up to wall-display lifetimes well beyond twenty years. Brass plates do not tarnish indoors and the engraving never fades.

Lead time

5–7 business days standard from artwork approval. The Coventry series is one of our highest-volume formats, so blank inventory is typically on hand — we can compress lead time to 3–4 days for in-stock pieces during slower production weeks. Rush available.

Budget tier + modern aesthetic

Bamboo + Leatherette

When to use

Five-year service recognition, sponsor-recognition plaques, nonprofit volunteer awards, modern-aesthetic recognition programs that want to break from the traditional walnut-and-brass format. Bamboo and leatherette plaques deliver award-tier presence at a fraction of solid-wood pricing.

Finish

Bamboo wall-decor pieces have a natural light-tan grain. Leatherette plaques come in seven color options (dark, light, rawhide, gold, silver, rosewood, marble). The laser burns through the leatherette top layer to expose the white substrate beneath, producing a tonal engrave with strong contrast. No separate brass plate needed — the engrave lives directly in the plaque face.

Durability

Leatherette plaques are dimensionally stable indoors and the burned engrave is permanent — there is nothing on top of the surface to fade or scratch off. Bamboo pieces are slightly more sensitive to humidity than hardwood; recommended for office and indoor display, not for outdoor or high-humidity environments.

Lead time

3–5 business days standard from artwork approval. Leatherette plaques engrave faster than wood-and-brass combos because there's no separate plate to mount. Often the fastest-turn plaque format we offer.

Component piece + add-ons

Laserable Brass Plate

When to use

Engraved brass plates mounted on hardwood plaques, replacement plates for existing perpetual plaques, donor-wall add-ons, equipment tags, fundraising bricks, name plates for office doors. We stock brass plate sizes from 1 x 2 inches up to 10 x 13 inches and engrave standalone for assembly elsewhere.

Finish

Laserable brass is a polished brass-finish aluminum core with a thin laser-receptive coating. The CO2 laser burns through the coating to expose the white substrate, producing high-contrast engraving that reads as clean white text on brass. Black-coated brass produces the inverse — clean white text on a black field framed with brass border.

Durability

Indoor display lifetime measured in decades. The laser-engraved mark is part of the substrate, not a printed layer — it cannot fade, peel, or rub off. Brass coating is suitable for indoor use; for outdoor donor-wall applications, choose the rigid aluminum laserable plates instead.

Lead time

2–4 business days standard for standalone plate engraving. Plates added to existing plaques (perpetual recognition, donor walls) ship with mounting hardware so you can install them on-site, or we can ship the assembled piece for an additional 2 days.

Headline awards + photo-ready trophies

Crystal + Art Glass

When to use

Tournament champion awards, sales President's Club headline pieces, industry lifetime-achievement awards, headline event recognition. Crystal and art-glass trophies are the photo-ready format — they read as serious in stage lighting and event photography, where flat plaques look dimensional-flat.

Finish

Crystal pieces are optical-grade glass cut and polished into figural shapes (eagle, star, victory figure, achievement column) mounted on solid crystal or glass bases. Art-glass pieces use colored hand-blown glass for the figure. Engraving is done on a laserable aluminum plate mounted to the base — keeps the crystal or art-glass piece itself clear.

Durability

Crystal and art-glass awards are display-only pieces — they are sturdy enough to ship and display indefinitely but not designed for handling. Recipients typically display them on a desk, office shelf, or recognition wall. The engraved aluminum plate is indoor-permanent and never needs to be re-finished.

Lead time

7–10 business days standard from artwork approval. Crystal and art-glass pieces are sourced in from inventory partners; engraving is done in-shop in Huntington. Bulk runs (tournament programs with 10+ pieces) plan on 10–14 days to allow for inventory consolidation. Rush available for headline single pieces.

Production reality

Lead times, art prep, and multi-recipient plaque handling

72-hour standard production on leatherette plaques and brass-plate add-ons — in-stock blanks engrave and ship in three business days from artwork approval. Walnut plaques (Coventry series) and premium rosewood pieces run 5–7 business days because the brass plate is engraved separately and mounted to the plaque face before shipment. Crystal and art-glass awards run 7–10 days because the figural piece is sourced from inventory partners and consolidated with the engraved aluminum plate in-shop.

Artwork workflow. Send us your logo (vector preferred — .ai, .pdf, .eps, .svg) and the engraving copy as a text block or formatted Word doc. We produce a digital proof showing layout, font, and engrave-line preview within one business day. Once you approve the proof, production starts. For corporate logos delivered as low-res JPGs, we redraw to vector at no charge as part of art prep. For perpetual plaques and multi-recipient board pieces, send a name list (CSV, Excel, or formatted email) with the exact text per plate — we proof the full list before engraving.

Multi-recipient + perpetual plaque handling. Board plaques, donor walls, and annual-recipient perpetual plaques typically combine a master plaque with eight to twenty-four engraved brass plates, one per honoree or year. Send the name list with the exact engraving copy for each plate. We engrave plates individually, mount them in the order you specify, and ship the assembled piece. For ongoing programs (new recipient added each year), we ship loose engraved plates with mounting hardware so you can update the master plaque on-site at your offices — re-mounting the full plaque every year would be both expensive and unnecessary.

Event-day timelines. Tournament awards, sales kickoff recognition, and gala ceremonies frequently settle recipient names hours before the event. Send the names as soon as they’re confirmed; we engrave brass plates, mount them, and either you pick up same-day from the shop or we courier to the venue. For multi-day events with on-site engraving needs, we can stage a portable laser at the venue — message the shop with event details for that option.

Decoration methods — laser is primary, with two alternatives

95% of awards production runs through the laser. Sublimation and color-fill handle the remaining cases where laser is the wrong tool for the design.

Primary method

Laser engraving

The default for almost every award we produce. The CO2 or fiber laser burns through the surface coating (leatherette, brass laser-receptive layer, anodized aluminum) or etches directly into the substrate (wood, glass, crystal, acrylic). The mark is part of the material — it cannot fade, peel, scratch off, or wash out. Tonal contrast only (no color); the engrave reads as white-on-brass, frosted-on-glass, or burned-on-wood depending on substrate.

Laser engraving service →

When color matters

Sublimation

Full-color dye-sublimation print on specific sublimation- coated awards (white aluminum plates, photo plaques, ceramic tiles). The dye is heat-fused into the polymer coating — durable, photographic-quality color, photo-tone artwork supported. Use when the design depends on color or a photo, and the substrate accepts a coating layer. Sublimation lead time tracks the same 5–7 day window as hardwood plaques.

When contrast is critical

Color-fill on engrave

After laser engraving, the engraved channels are filled with epoxy paint (typically black on brass, or gold on dark wood) to maximize contrast on the engraved letters. Used on premium awards where the engrave needs to read from across a room — high-end donor walls, headline industry awards, executive desk plates. Adds 1–2 days to lead time for the paint-and-cure step.

Why OTIA

Four reasons Long Island companies use us for recognition awards

01 · In-house engraving

No broker delays — engraving floor in Huntington

Most online awards companies are brokers. Your order ships to a national engraver, waits in queue, engraves, and ships again — typically a 10-to-14-day round trip with a customer-service queue between you and the laser. Our CO2 and fiber lasers are on the shop floor in Huntington, operated by staff we trained. The lead-time guarantees we publish are the lead times we hit because the broker step doesn’t exist.

02 · No minimums

Engrave 1 or 100 at the same per-piece price

The single-retirement-plaque order ships on the same line at the same per-piece price as a fifty-piece tournament program. There is no setup fee, no plate fee, no minimum quantity. This is structurally true — our laser runs the same job whether the queue has one piece or fifty, so there’s no honest reason to charge differently.

03 · Long Island shop

Huntington pickup + courier service to Nassau / Suffolk

Local pickup is free from our Huntington shop during business hours — useful for headline event awards where carrier-damage risk is real (a damaged Airflyte rosewood plaque on the day of the ceremony is a real problem insurance only partially solves). For Nassau and Suffolk county clients with tight event timelines, we courier directly to the venue same-day.

04 · Flat per-piece pricing

Same per-piece price at qty 1 or qty 100

Engraving fee is transparent per location. No surprise setup charges, no per-color upcharges, no plate fees buried in the quote. See the pricing calculator for the live per-piece breakdown across decoration locations and quantities.

Four steps from concept to delivery

The same workflow runs for one-piece retirement plaques and fifty-piece tournament programs. No surprise extra steps for larger orders.

Awards + plaques FAQ

Thirteen questions we hear weekly from HR, executive assistants, tournament chairs, and association executives planning recognition programs.

Is there a minimum order for custom awards or plaques?
No. We engrave one walnut plaque as readily as we engrave fifty. There is no setup fee, no plate fee, and no minimum quantity. Single-piece orders for retirement gifts, individual recognition awards, and one-off tournament pieces ship on the same production line as bulk runs at the same per-piece price. The no-minimum policy is unconditional.
What is the standard lead time on engraved awards?
Standard production is 72 hours from artwork approval for leatherette plaques, brass plate add-ons, and most in-stock items. Walnut and Coventry-series plaques run 5–7 business days because of the brass-plate engrave-and-mount step. Premium Airflyte rosewood, eagle-casting pieces, and perpetual plaques typically run 7–10 business days. Crystal and art-glass awards run 7–10 days because of inventory consolidation. Rush is available on most items — ask for a deadline-specific quote.
What file formats do you accept for award artwork?
Vector formats preferred: .ai (Adobe Illustrator), .pdf, .eps, .svg. Raster formats accepted for review: .png and .jpg at 300 dpi or higher. For brass-plate engraving, vector is strongly preferred because the laser path follows the vector strokes directly — raster art is converted to vector first and may lose fine detail. If you only have a logo as a low-res JPG, send it anyway and we'll redraw to vector as part of art prep at no charge for typical corporate logos.
How do brass plate add-ons work?
Brass plates are sold and engraved as standalone components — useful for replacing damaged plates on existing plaques, adding annual recipients to perpetual recognition plaques, or producing donor-wall plates that you mount yourself. We stock laserable brass-plate sizes from 1 x 2 inches up to 10 x 13 inches. Engraved standalone plates ship in 2–4 business days with mounting hardware. Send dimensions and engraving copy by email or quote form.
Can you handle plaques with multiple recipients (board plaques, perpetual recognition)?
Yes — perpetual plaques and multi-recipient board plaques are one of our standard formats. Send a name list (CSV, Excel, or formatted email) with the full text you want on each plate. We engrave plates individually, mount them to the master plaque in the order you specify, and ship the assembled piece. For ongoing programs (annual recipients added each year), we ship loose engraved plates with mounting hardware so you can update the plaque in place at your offices.
Do you offer samples or proofs before production?
Digital proofs (PDF mockups showing layout, font, and engrave preview) are included on every order at no charge. Physical samples are produced at the standard per-piece price for the chosen plaque format. For multi-piece programs evaluating a specific format, the physical-sample fee is credited toward the production order if you proceed within 30 days. Most clients approve a digital proof and skip the physical sample step.
Do you offer rush turnaround on awards?
Yes. Most leatherette plaques and brass-plate add-ons can ship in 24–48 hours from artwork approval, subject to current shop load. Walnut plaques can usually compress to 3–4 days. Crystal and art-glass pieces are harder to rush because of inventory sourcing — call ahead if you have a deadline inside 7 days on a crystal piece. Rush adds a per-piece surcharge that scales with the deadline; we'll quote it transparently and only commit to a deadline we believe we can hit.
Are mounting hardware and wall-hanging brackets included?
Yes. Every wall-display plaque ships with sawtooth or keyhole mounting hardware appropriate to the plaque size and weight — pre-installed where possible, included loose where the recipient may want to choose horizontal vs vertical orientation. Larger perpetual plaques (over 10 lbs) ship with French-cleat-style mounting hardware for secure wall installation. Hardware is included in the per-piece price.
How are awards packaged for shipping?
Single awards ship in custom-cut cardboard with foam interior protection — designed to survive carrier handling without damage to the plaque face or mounting hardware. Premium pieces (Airflyte rosewood, eagle castings, crystal awards) ship in branded presentation boxes suitable for direct gift-presentation to the recipient. For program-shipped batches going to multiple addresses, each plaque is individually labeled and we can include a printed recipient card if you provide the names.
Can you do photo engraving on plaques?
Yes, on specific materials. Photo engraving works well on dark leatherette plaques, anodized aluminum plates, slate, and certain hardwood faces — the laser modulates burn depth to recreate photographic tonal range. Photo engraving does not work on bare brass or polished crystal. For photo-engraved retirement or memorial plaques, send the highest-resolution photo you have (300+ dpi, ideally the original camera file) and we'll preview the engrave on the chosen material before production.
Can you handle event-day or tournament-day engraving timelines?
Yes. For golf tournaments, sales kickoffs, and award nights where the recipient names settle hours before the ceremony, we offer rapid-turn engraving from the shop. Send the name list as soon as it's confirmed; we engrave brass plates, mount them to the plaque, and you pick up or we courier to the venue. For multi-day events with on-site engraving needs, we can stage a portable laser at the venue — message the shop with event details for that option.
Can OTIA engrave customer-supplied awards or trophies?
Yes, with conditions. We engrave customer-supplied trophies, plaques, glass pieces, and crystal awards at a flat per-piece engraving rate. The item must be a material we can laser (wood, brass, anodized aluminum, glass, crystal, leather, slate, ceramic) — chrome, mirror-finish stainless, and certain plastics deflect the CO2 laser and cannot be engraved. For customer-supplied items, you assume responsibility for any unit damaged in engraving — our defect rate is under 1% but it is not zero. Send a photo with dimensions for a fit confirmation before sending the item.
Local pickup in Huntington vs shipping — what's the difference?
Local pickup is free from our Huntington, NY shop during business hours. Shipping is at carrier rates (typically UPS or FedEx ground for plaques, signature-required for premium pieces). For Long Island clients within driving range, local pickup also eliminates carrier-damage risk on premium pieces (Airflyte rosewood, crystal awards) where shipping insurance only partially compensates for the disruption of a damaged headline award. We recommend pickup for headline event awards when feasible.
