Long Island custom apparel — direct answer

On The Island Apparel runs an in-house custom apparel shop in Huntington, NY, serving Nassau and Suffolk counties. We print DTF, embroider, and laser engrave on T-shirts, polos, hoodies, hats, uniforms, and jackets — for businesses, schools, restaurants, trades, healthcare, events, and teams. No minimums (one piece or one thousand), no broker markup, 72-hour standard production, same-week ship to any Long Island address or local pickup at our Huntington shop.

Why local matters

Why Long Island shops with OTIA

If you're sourcing custom apparel on Long Island, the typical alternative is one of two things: an out-of-state online print shop that ships from Texas or Las Vegas, or a local broker who takes the order, sends it to a contract decorator, and resells it to you with a markup. Both options leave you waiting on someone else's queue, with someone else's quality bar, and with no one to call when the proof doesn't look right.

We're different on those three fronts. The DTF printers, the embroidery machines, and the laser engraver all live in our Huntington, NY shop — not at a partner facility, not at a wholesale broker. That means when you approve an artwork proof, the print runs the same day on a machine our team is standing next to. It means when a Nassau or Suffolk customer asks for a same-week turn, we can actually answer yes or no by checking the schedule, not by routing the question to a third party.

It also means no minimums. A single embroidered polo for a new hire, a 12-shirt DTF run for a Huntington restaurant, and a 500-piece corporate uniform program all run on the same machines — same per-piece pricing, same 72-hour standard production window. And because we're physically on Long Island, the proof loop is hours not days, the shipping window collapses to 1-2 business days UPS ground for most Nassau and Suffolk ZIPs, and Huntington-adjacent customers can drop off and pick up in person.

How it works

From quote to delivery in four steps

  1. 01

    Pick a garment

Browse the catalog (T-shirts, polos, hoodies, hats, uniforms, jackets) or tell us what you're after — we'll recommend the right blank from our supplier mix based on use case, fit, and budget.

  2. 02

    Send the art

Email the artwork file (vector preferred, raster works too). We digitize logos for embroidery in-house and prep DTF files. No setup fees, no hidden art charges.

  3. 03

    Approve the proof

We send a written proof with placement, size, and color confirmation. Approve in writing and the production clock starts — 72 hours standard on most orders.

  4. 04

    Production + ship/pickup

We print, embroider, or engrave in-house at our Huntington shop. Same-week ship UPS ground to any Long Island address, or local pickup at the shop if you'd rather drive.

FAQ

Long Island custom apparel — common questions

14 questions covering service area, turnaround, minimums, drop-off vs ship, art, samples, reorders, team-stores, and pricing.

Do you serve all of Nassau and Suffolk counties?

Yes. Our Huntington, NY shop ships custom apparel to every town on Long Island — every Nassau ZIP, every Suffolk ZIP, every East End hamlet. The shop is in Suffolk; Nassau orders ship UPS ground in 1 business day, most Suffolk addresses in 1 business day, and the East End (Riverhead, Southampton, East Hampton) in 1-2 business days.

Can I drop off and pick up in person?

Yes — our shop is in Huntington, NY. In-shop drop-off and pickup is common for single-piece personalization, customer-supplied garments, and same-week orders where someone is local enough to handle it in person. Reach out before you drive over so we can confirm the order is ready.

What's the lead time to the East End — Riverhead, Southampton, East Hampton?

Same 72-hour production window from artwork approval, plus 1-2 business days UPS ground from Huntington to the East End. If you need it faster, call the shop — we can usually accommodate a same-day or next-day rush on smaller orders.

Do you handle PTAs and non-profits with no minimums?

Yes. Long Island PTAs, booster clubs, and small non-profits are a regular part of our work. No minimums means a single class, a single team, or a 30-shirt fundraiser can order with the same per-piece pricing as a larger order — fundraising margins stay intact because there's no minimum threshold to clear first.

Can you do a single-piece order — one shirt, one polo, one hat?

Yes. Single-piece is one of the most common orders we run. A single embroidered polo for a new hire, a single DTF tee for a one-off gift, a single hat for a tournament — all go through the same machines as the larger runs, at the same per-piece pricing.

What about rush orders for events — can you turn an order in under a week?

Often yes. Standard production is 72 hours from artwork approval; rush is available on most orders. Smaller runs (under ~100 pieces) are easiest to expedite. Call the shop before you submit if you have a hard event deadline so we can confirm production capacity before you commit.

Do you supply blanks or can I bring customer-supplied garments?

Both. We stock common blanks from S&S Activewear and SanMar (T-shirts, polos, hoodies, hats, jackets) and can source nearly anything by ID. We also decorate customer-supplied garments — bring them in or ship them to us with a note, and we'll quote decoration only. Most cotton, polyester, blends, and standard fabrics decorate cleanly; we'll tell you upfront if something won't.

What artwork files do you need?

Vector files preferred — AI, SVG, EPS, or vector PDF. For embroidery we digitize in-house from whatever you have (vector or raster). For DTF, vector is best but high-resolution PNG works too (300 DPI minimum at print size). No setup fees or art charges — send what you have and we'll work with it.

How does the sample and proof process work?

Every order gets a written proof before production runs. The proof shows artwork placement, size, color (DTF) or thread color (embroidery), and any text confirmation. We don't fire the production clock until you approve in writing. For large recurring programs we can sample a single piece first; ask when you quote.

Do you handle reorders — saved artwork, recurring uniform programs?

Yes. We keep notes and artwork files on past orders so a reorder is just 'same as last time, plus N pieces.' Recurring uniform programs (restaurants, hospitality, healthcare practices, trades crews) often run quarterly or by-new-hire — we can hold blanks in your sizes and turn each order in 72 hours.

Do you ship outside Long Island?

Yes. We ship anywhere in the tri-state and across the country. Long Island is where we have the densest customer base, but the same shop ships orders to Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Florida, California, and everywhere in between via UPS or USPS ground.

Can you handle a team-store or web-store program for our company?

Yes — we build storefronts for Long Island companies, sports leagues, schools, and event programs. The store handles individual ordering, sizing, payment, and shipping; we produce on-demand or in batches depending on your model. Useful for travel teams, corporate gear, league apparel, and any program where individual members buy directly.

How does your pricing compare to a Long Island broker quote?

Brokers route your order to a contract decorator and resell with a markup. Because we own the machines in-house, your quote skips that markup — you're paying the production shop directly, not a middleman. Pricing is flat per-piece (same at qty 1 or qty 1,000), no setup fees, no minimums. See the live calculator at /pricing for the exact number on your job.

Can we visit the Huntington shop and see the production floor?

Yes. Walk-ins are welcome during shop hours, and we're happy to walk Long Island customers through the production floor — the DTF printers, the embroidery machines, the laser engraver, the artwork prep stations. Call ahead if you want a longer tour or if you're bringing a team.
